two tasty sins

Envy Cafe & Gallery, Summer Hill

BLT: Bacon, lettuce and tomato with house-made mayonnaise on Turkish bread
Pear and Raspberry bread with mixed berry compote and ricotta
Breakfast burrito: scrambled eggs, bacon, sweet tomato and paprika chutney w/ guacamole
As always with Envy, the service was slow. My mother, brother and I waited to receive menus, and then again for our orders to be taken and then some more for our food and drinks. But as always with Envy, the food was delicious, our lattes and hot chocolates were as they should be (but slightly lukewarm) and the courtyard was a great place to sit and relax on a Saturday morning.
When our meals finally came out, my mother tucked into the BLT, with her only critique being that salad was a weird accompaniment for a breakfast meal. Kyle had the pear and raspberry bread; my go-to sweet treat. The 'cake' is always the perfect consistency, perfectly toasted and perfectly paired with sweet ricotta and berry compote. My breakfast burrito was divine. The scrambled eggs were deliciously creamy and the bacon well-cooked, with just the right degree of crispness. The tomato and paprika chutney drew the egg and bacon together and the guacamole was the best that I have had in a long time. If I were to fault this dish, my only critique would be the menu placement. Envy, get it off the specials board and onto the fixed menu. Do this and the already bustling cafe could become all the more bustling.

Basically, I love food, eating and coffee. I struggle to not buy coffee every day; my favourite outing is one that involves stuffing my mouth and I am a sucker for all things sweet (yet still tell myself I can refrain from indulging). As it is then, two tasty sins is one third procrastination from my journalism degree, one third a log for my dining exploits and one third an attempt to make your mouths water.
