two tasty sins

Sideways, Dulwich Hill

Ricotta pancake served w/ seasonal stewed fruit, yoghurt and maple syrup ($14.50)
Fiveways breakfast: poached eggs w/ bacon, chipolata sausages, sauteed mushrooms, roast tomatoes and woodfired toast ($13.50)
Banana bread w/ strawberries, maple syrup and cinnamon ($10.20)
Green eggs: scrambled eggs with homemade pesto and fetta cheese, served w/ bacon, roast tomatoes and woodfired toast ($14.90)
I have said this once and I will say it again (to begin with a cliche), Sideways serves THE best breakfast in the Inner West, of that I have experienced so far anyway.
This scrumptious meal was scoffed down the morning before university went back. And I must say, it definitely made hearing all the assignments I had due in the upcoming weeks almost pleasant, with the delicious taste of pesto and fetta still resting in my mouth.
Sideways is hidden away in the residential quarters of Dulwich Hill, off Old Canterbury Rd. On this day, we were greeted by a warm winter's sun, which unfortunately did not favour my photography.
The breakfast menu at Sideways offers something for all tastebuds and is relatively well-priced considering the tasty and generous meals you get for your money.
The waitstaff are usually attentive and friendly, although the service can be poor when the cafe is packed, which often is the case.
On this occasion, I forced myself to order something other than the corn fritters, ending up with the Green Eggs. From now on, this may be my regular order. The scrambled eggs were excellently flavoured with fetta and pesto, yet still fluffy, as was the bacon and roast tomatoes cooked perfectly. I don't know where Sideways get their bread from but it results in lovely thick toast with a delightfully crisp crust. I want it for my toast each morning. I also picked at some of my brother Kyle's pancake after he gave up trying to consume the huge meal. The pancake, like the eggs, was fluffy and the subtle ricotta flavour was divine! The stewed rhubarb was a well-picked accompaniment, rhubarb being tart and balancing the sweetness of the ricotta and maple syrup.
This cafe is a must if you live in the Inner West and even if you don't, it is well worth the trek!

Basically, I love food, eating and coffee. I struggle to not buy coffee every day; my favourite outing is one that involves stuffing my mouth and I am a sucker for all things sweet (yet still tell myself I can refrain from indulging). As it is then, two tasty sins is one third procrastination from my journalism degree, one third a log for my dining exploits and one third an attempt to make your mouths water.
