Prior to my boyfriend coming back from Englad, you could often find me with my laptop attempting work with coffee in hand at this wonderful little cafe. Since his return, my visits are less frequent, although the quality of meals and drinks had and the friendliness of service has all but changed.
I love the staff at Plunge. They are inviting and warm and don't make me feel like a dork while I sit there with my laptop. Most know my name, others help me restrain myself from coffee (with suggested replacements) after reading about it on Twitter. The staff a Plunge really know customer service.
I love the food at Plunge. The Middle Eastern twist to the meals means the food is more than your typical cafe food. Falafel, Turkish bread, cous cous, lamb flat bread, tabouli... the list goes on. And the combination of flavours is amazing! I ordered the bread with dips including olive tapenade and hummus ($9) and ate the dips all by myself for a mid-afternoon snack. I'm not much of a fan of olives these days, but I could stomach the olive tapenade. The orange dip (I forget what it is called - it was a while back now - was my favourite. Full of flavour with tiny chopped nuts adding another texture. Nathan and I shared the beef burger w/ fries and mini chocolate milkshake ($16). The mini chocolate milkshake is the most lovely addition and reminds me of the so-themed episode on this year's MasterChef. The pattie was juicy, although the size and height of the burger made it hard to eat. I personally don't eat fries/hot chips, but Nathan said they were nice and salty.
I love the atmosphere at Plunge. The decor is not the best. Sometimes I wonder if the rips in the cushions on the bench are supposed to be there. The chairs and tables are nothing special. There is, however, a wonderful, big green sofa I love to lounge on. It is the most comfortable thing. Plunge also has a cosy courtyard out the back.
But most of all I love the coffee. They serve Coffee Alchemy. I've said this once and I will say it again: definitely my favourite coffee in Summer Hill. Perhaps my second favourite discovery behind Cronulla's Grind.
