A couple of weeks ago now, I went to Envy for a catch up lunch with two fabulous girls - Sophia and Emily. With its gorgeous courtyard out the back in full bloom and lilac coloured flowers dressing the floor, Envy offers a great atmosphere for a relaxing, long lunch.
I am currently trying to restrict my coffee consumption on the basis that it doesn't make my insides feel the best. Thus I ordered a summery pineapple, lychee and coconut frappe ($5.50). I am not much a fan of pineapple, but this almost converted me. The hint of lychee was divine but, to my disliking, I could barely taste the coconut.
I am a big fan of breakfast, no matter what the time of day. Much to my liking, it wasn't just me who felt this way - Sophia, Emily and I all ordered breakfast-type meals. Please note, I didn't feature the breakfast burrito Emily had because I have already raved about it elsewhere. Nothing new could be said.
I opted for Envy's breakfast: scrambled eggs w/ crispy bacon, chorizo, roast tomato, mushrooms and toast ($17.50). The idea of chorizo and mushrooms hooked me and then drew me in. As always, the food and drinks at Envy took their sweet time to come out. But the food was equally sweet. The meal was delicious. The toast was a divine (don't cafes always have the best bread!?) as was the spicy chorizo and crispy bacon. The scrambled eggs were perfectly fluffy.
However, you only go to Envy if you're willing to wait. The waitstaff are not the most attentive or friendly and the food is always slow to come out. Diners should question whether the atmospheric courtyard with its summer flowers and the top notch food are worth the poor service. I'm always driven back to the cafe, but at the same time, embarrassed to take friends and family there who expect great service for the price they pay.
Eggs Benedict = Best. I think I actually eat it every time we go out.
ReplyDeleteI would disagree. Corn fritters, or "big" style breakfasts with a bit of everything - my love for chorizo is a long-standing affair.
