two tasty sins

The Cut Bar & Grill, The Rocks

I had my birthday dinner with my brother, Kyle, and mother at The Cut Bar & Grill in The Rocks. It was seriously one of the best food-choices I have ever made.
My mother had the 300g 4-hour slow roast Sher Wagyu standing rib. I do not normally eat meat but this was plain amazing. And for $39 it was definitely worth it, with my mother unable to finish her meal even though Kyle and I kept picking at it.
Both Kyle and I had the $37 roast pork belly and loin with mustard butter, apples and sardalaise potato. Kyle and I agreed that this dish was just delicious. The pork loin was Kyle's favourite, his reasoning being the crisp skin and that it was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I preferred the pork belly, given my massive love for crackling and fatty, deliciously tender pork. As compliments, the sardalaise potato and apples contrasted the pork well. However, while the mustard butter was a nice addition to the plating, it did not have much flavour.
The three of us shared two desserts, priced at $16 each. Kyle and I favoured the extremely inventive and tasty lemon and blueberry cheesecake with chestnut crumble. The dessert chef at The Cut, Brooke, served us a non-traditional and surprising dessert which superseded all other cheesecakes I have tasted. The individual elements placed on the plate for the diner to mix at their own will allowed for artistic and aesthetically pleasing presentation. The chestnut crumble was to die for!
My mother favoured the chocolate coconut mousse with black cherry sorbet, coconut rough soil and cherry liqueur bubbles. I have to say, this came close to the cheesecake in terms of flavour. The black cherry sorbet was an excellent contrast to the sweet mousse, and the coconut rough added an additional, and pleasurable, texture to the dish.
The decor at the restaurant is original, inspiring and tasteful. The sophisticated restaurant is housed within a heritage cellar and sports a variety of comfortable, vintage chairs and meat-cleaver door-handles in the attractive restrooms- and that's saying something.

Basically, I love food, eating and coffee. I struggle to not buy coffee every day; my favourite outing is one that involves stuffing my mouth and I am a sucker for all things sweet (yet still tell myself I can refrain from indulging). As it is then, two tasty sins is one third procrastination from my journalism degree, one third a log for my dining exploits and one third an attempt to make your mouths water.
