Iced Coffee minus the cream
Roasted sweet potato, fetta, rocket and Sea Acre's tomato relish on toasted Turkish bread
Duck, pork and pistachio terrine with toasted salad, sourdough and cornichons
For our last outing in Port Macquarie over the holidays, Mum and I dined at Sea Acres' Rainforest Cafe. This is a beautiful little cafe nestled in Port Macquarie's own rainforest. Even though our visit intersected with Sea Acres' renovations, the experience we had on a sunny winter's day was serene and relaxing.
The cafe is both headed and owned by a French chef, which visibly translates to their menu. My mum had the roasted vegetables on Turkish bread and informed me that it tasted fresh, had lots of flavour and was downright tasty. I opted for the terrine, needless to say it let me down a bit. I had never tried a terrine before and picked this option because Masterchef so often cooks tempting looking terrines. The terrine was unappetising to look at and really just tasted like a meatloaf that had been left in the fridge overnight. The accompanying salad was delicious however, again, the toasted sourdough did not quite gel with the rest of the meal and was cold and hard when it came to tasting.
Rainforest Cafe offers an extensive range of house-baked cakes and desserts. Mum and I both love creme brulee and just couldn't resist. I did not take any photos of the brulee but it was to die for. The hard caramel top was the perfect contrast to a creamy and rich base.
In regards to the service at Rainforest Cafe, the meals and drinks came out at a pace expected of a middle-class dining venue. However, the staff seemed disinterested and as if they had better things to do. The uniform of breton stripes and a beret was a lovely way to celebrate a month (spurning from Bastille Day on July 14) dedicated to all things French.
